“The point of technology
is not for it to tell the stories for us
but to allow us to craft
stories that engage people on many levels.” (Thornburg,
p. viii). I agree
strongly in what Thornburg says about technology not taking over the storytelling.
Technology is a tool, a means to an end, and it can be used to engage a wide
range of learners. Through multimedia technology, visual learners can be
engaged with video and images, auditory learners can be engaged through various
forms of digital audio, kinesthetic learners can be engaged through hands-on
interactive computer activities...simply put technology is a powerful
multimedia tool and a great tool to use for building and sharing the stories of
people. The story takes precedent over the medium, and that is the main point
of the foreword that I agree with. Let
the foreword serve to remind us as we go through the semester reading Ohler's “Digital
Storytelling in the Classroom,” that technology is just the medium for
storytelling, not the main focus.
Thank you for the example, Prof. Rodriguez.
